COD Hosts 2nd Annual 'New Face of Homelessness Symposium' Oct. 12

The College of DuPage Human Services department is hosting the 2nd annual “New Face of Homelessness Symposium” on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Resource Center, Room 2800. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.

Presented by Project Flipmode and Bridge Communities, the event will feature keynote speaker Karen Wells, Vice President, Nutrition and Menu Strategy, McDonalds USA. Wells will share how she overcame homelessness, poverty and prejudice to achieve personal professional success.

Breakout sessions are will be hosted by Detective Mike Drugan, DuPage County Sheriff's Dept.; Joyce Hothan, executive director, Bridge Communities; Debbie Carr, NCO Youth & Family Services; and Christy Hasselson, Youth Outlook.

This symposium is free and open to the public. The program will be of particular interest to persons who respond to the needs of homeless families, including but not limited to social workers, health care providers, government workers, students, counselors, clergy, EMTs and Paramedics, educators and law enforcement officers.

CEUs are available for participants at no charge.
