Tour De Villas Race supports food pantry and Self-Help Closet

Debra Walusiak, community resource director for the Des Plaines Self-Help Closet and Food Pantry, and Tom Olsen, chairman of the Tour De Villas Bike Race, recently met with Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan at city hall for a check presentation.

Olsen presented a $360 check, representing the donations collected for the Self-Help Closet at the Tour De Villa Race, held on July 2 in the Des Plaines Villas Subdivision. In addition, food item contributions brought the value of the total donations for the day to approximately $410.

Signature red barrels from the Self-Help Closet were placed in gathering areas in the vicinity of the bike race which was launched three years ago with the help of Mayor Moylan, third Ward Alderman Matt Bogusz, seventh Ward Alderman Dan W. Wilson, Tom Olsen, the Des Plaines Park District, the local emergency services, lots of volunteers, Des Plaines Homeland Security and the public works department.
