Chicago hosts personal preparedness workshop

Chicago residents will learn what they need to be prepared for an emergency or natural disaster at a workshop this week.

“Are You Prepared?” will be on Wednesday at the Chicago Cultural Center.

It is hosted by the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications and the Chicago police and fire departments.

General preparedness will be covered along with effective crime prevention, community policing, protecting homes from fire, teaching children how and when to call emergency responders and training citizens to help officials during an emergency.

September is National Preparedness Month.
