Roundabout agreement improves safety
A recent letter to the editor was filled with inaccurate information regarding the equestrian underpass on Hunt Club Road. In response to that letter, here are the facts.
During the planning for the roundabout on Hunt Club Road in the village of Old Mill Creek, the village and the property owner raised the issue of equestrian crossings. The Lake County Division of Transportation worked with the village and the property owner and agreed to address this independent of the roundabout project.
The property owner submitted a permit application to construct a tunnel at his expense, the county and village explored this option and agreed that a tunnel (public underpass) was the best option. As a result, the board approved an agreement with the village and the county board paying $40,000 toward the project because it improves public safety, as well as provides a road underpass for the future village multi-use trail.
The end result is that the construction of the new roundabout is on schedule, the village of Old Mill Creek will have a public multi-use tunnel in the near future, and Hunt Club Road drivers will have an improved drive unaffected by congestion or equestrians crossing the road.
