Naperville Parks welcomes Kiwanis as first in Adopt-A-Park program

Volunteers have been more active than ever at the Naperville Park District in 2011, from Earth Week projects, to coaching soccer, to laying bricks on the Riverwalk. This year, in addition to one-time projects, the Park District is offering longer-term opportunities for volunteers to “adopt” a park.

The Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club is the first group to jump into the program, adopting Veterans Park on Gartner Road.

The Kiwanis completed their first project at Veterans Park on September 10, including mulching trees and grill rings, removing invasive plants from the natural areas, and litter pick-up. They plan several additional maintenance projects this fall, and then will resume in the spring.

“We're excited to see people enjoying themselves while helping to care for our parks,” said Park District Volunteer Coordinator Lynnette Hoole. “They can connect with others, learn about native Illinois plants, and gain an appreciation of the work that goes into keeping our parks beautiful,” she said.

Individuals or groups interested in adopting a park can learn more by visiting www.napervilleparks.org or by calling or Lynnette Hoole at (630) 848-3606.
