MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin’s duck season is set to open this weekend.

The northern zone hunt opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday and runs through Nov. 22. The hunt in the new Mississippi River zone opens Saturday as well and runs through Oct. 2. It will reopen on Oct. 15 and close on Dec. 4. The southern zone season opens at 9 a.m. on Oct. 1. It will run through Oct. 9, reopen on Oct. 15 and close again on Dec. 4.

The state Department of Natural Resources recommends hunters spend some time scouting. The agency reports a survey of Wisconsin duck hunters who scouted at least three times took an average of 14.7 ducks per season compared with 4.8 ducks for hunters who didn’t scout.
