Aurora man dies after motorcycle crash

A 23-year-old Aurora man has died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash last week, according to police.

Carlos Amaya was airlifted from the scene of the crash Thursday night at the intersection of Edison and High streets and was pronounced dead Friday afternoon at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, according to police.

Police said Amaya was driving a 1996 Honda motorcycle east on Edison Street just before 10 p.m. when he blew through the stop sign at High Street and struck a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer that was heading east on High Street.

An investigation revealed several empty beer cans in Amaya’s backpack, according to police.

He was not wearing a helmet when he slammed into the side of the vehicle, which was driven by a 28-year-old Montgomery woman. The woman was not ticketed.

An autopsy by the DuPage County coroner’s office is pending.
