Homecoming ceremonies held for Illinois soldiers
Homecoming ceremonies have been held for about 170 Illinois Army National Guard soldiers who returned from deployments that took them to Iraq and Kuwait.
Ceremonies were held Friday in North Riverside, East St. Louis, Paris and Springfield.
The soldiers were with the 1244th Transportation Company in North Riverside.
The Guard says they hauled cargo throughout Iraq and Kuwait for the past 10 months. They finished about 220 convoy missions of more than 3.8 million miles with no casualties.
They helped to transport the last British soldiers and their equipment out of Iraq in May.
Soldiers from the company received Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, Purple Hearts among other awards.
