Get rid of hazardous waste:

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County will host a household chemical waste collection from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Lake Forest Municipal Services Center, 800 N. Field Drive, Lake Forest. Accepted items include CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription and over-the counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (no latex) and varnishes, as well as other household chemicals. The event is free but is for Illinois residents only.
