St. Charles woman Tasered in police standoff faces weapons charges

A 49-year-old St. Charles woman who earlier this month was Tasered to end a police standoff as she held an unloaded shotgun, faces felony weapons charges, police said Wednesday.

Anne M. Tannenbaum, of the 1700 block of Cumberland Green Drive, faces charges of felony aggravated assault and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, a misdemeanor.

Her bail was set at $10,000, which means she needs to post $1,000 to be released pending trial. Tannenbaum was at the Kane County jail Wednesday afternoon and she is due in court Monday.

If convicted, she faces up to three years in prison, but probation also is an option.

At about 5:22 p.m. Sept. 2, authorities were called to the 1700 block of Cumberland for a possible suicidal subject in an apartment, police said.

Officers interviewed a man outside the apartment, who said his wife had locked herself in an upstairs bedroom, was cutting herself, refused to come out and had an “inoperable” shotgun.

Police ordered Tannenbaum to come out, but she instead went to the window and showed police the gun. She ignored their commands, so police shot pepper balls into the apartment.

She came out holding the gun and was Tasered when she again refused to drop the weapon, police said. Tannenbaum was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva for treatment and police later discovered the shotgun was not loaded and equipped with a trigger lock, authorities said.

This was not the first domestic incident involving Tannenbaum.

According to court records, St. Charles police arrested her in August 2005 and she was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to domestic violence counseling and 12 months supervision.
