Penny candy in Grayslake

Visitors to the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum will sell old-fashioned penny candy on Friday and Saturday. The nostalgia will coincide with Grayslake Central High School homecoming events. Mary Janes, licorice whips and other nostalgic candy will be available for one-cent each, with a limit of five. The candy also will be sold Sept. 24 during the Grayslake High School Class of 1961’s 50th reunion activities. The old dime store, where a portion of the Last Chance saloon now exists on Center Street, was owned by the Turner family from 1941 to 1973. The store’s glass case for candy was donated to the Grayslake Historical Society.
