Comic fans step in to help Granite City man

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (AP) — The Superfriends of Metropolis are coming to the rescue of a Granite City man who had his Superman collection pilfered by an evildoer.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Superman fan Mike Meyer has a mental disability but lives independently. His home had been filled with thousands of comic books, figurines and other Superman items before he was robbed of his memorabilia.

That’s when the Superfriends stepped in. They’re a fan club that meets at the Superman Festival in Metropolis each year, and they’re working to help rebuild Meyer’s collection.

The memorabilia drive is being coordinated by Keith Howard of Belleville, and he says they’re collecting Superman items from comic fans across the country and from as far away as Paraguay.
