Gurnee motorcycle accident disrupts traffic Saturday

Two people were hospitalized after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by an oncoming car Saturday afternoon, Gurnee fire officials said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Delany Road and Route 41 at 1:16 p.m., Gurnee Fire Lt. Heath Graham said. The motorcycle was going through the intersection when it was hit. The motorcycle’s passengers, a man and a woman, were ejected from the bike and landed underneath another car.

It took about three minutes to free the two from the car using the Jaws of Life, according to Graham.

“They were both wearing helmets at the time, which probably saved their lives,” Graham said.

The motorcycle riders were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center for treatment. Two other people were injured in the accident, but both refused medical assistance at the scene, Graham said.
