Pingree Grove decides to hire administrator

After some questions about whether to wait until next year to hire a new village administrator, the Pingree Grove village board decided to move forward and interview candidates in an open meeting next month.

The replacement of the village administrator was listed for discussion in executive session during a special meeting Thursday night. Last week, Village President Greg Marston said the board might wait to hire someone in order to help plug a $50,000 budget hole. The part-time position pays $58,900 per year.

Village Administrator Bill Barlow, who will be leaving his post Sept. 23 to work in Maywood, and the village attorney were asked to perform an analysis of the need for an administrator. The board will decide whether to hire a part- or full-time administrator based on candidates’ “willingness to accept financial terms,” Barlow said.According to a timetable set by the board, Village President Greg Marston will screen resumes and select five candidates by Sept. 22, Barlow said. The board plans to interview those candidates Oct. 5 in order to extend a job offer by Oct. 10 and have the new administrator start the job Nov. 14.The recruitment process will begin Monday via online postings, the website LinkedIn and the Ranger Rider program of the Illinois City/County Management Association, Barlow said. The village already has receive interest from a half dozen or so people, he said.
