Search begins for Chicago’s Christmas tree
— The hunt is on for Chicago’s official Christmas tree.
The city’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is accepting tree nominations starting Wednesday. Chicagoans will vote on the top three finalists and the winning tree will be on display in Daley Plaza.
The tree must be at least 55 feet tall. Submissions must include three photographs of the tree, which must be located within 100 miles of downtown Chicago. Voting on the three finalists starts in mid-October and the winner will be announced in late October. The winning family will get to “flip the switch” at the Thanksgiving week tree-lighting ceremony.
Last year’s 70-foot blue spruce tree came from the Colomer family of McHenry.
