Naperville auctioning old radio system

Residents can bid on Naperville's surplus radio equipment during an auction at 9 a.m. Sept. 16 at the Public Works Service Center, 180 Fort Hill Drive.

Equipment available for auction includes items from a Motorola Trunked 800 MHz Radio system purchased by the city in 1989. The Motorola system included mobile and portable radios, along with UHF and VHF radios.

In 2008, Naperville purchased its Harris/Tyco Interoperable Radio system for citywide use. The Motorola equipment was used until Dec. 1, 2010, when the city switched over. The Motorola equipment was taken off the air and inventoried and placed in storage as surplus.

Viewing of the items will begin at 8 a.m. with the auction starting at 9 a.m. Registration is required and will begin at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event.
