2nd woman dies from crash at covered Ohio sign

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A second woman who had been injured in a crash at an Ohio stop sign concealed with petroleum jelly and plastic wrap has died.

Lt. John Monce with the sheriff’s office in central Ohio’s Pickaway County says 81-year-old Jeanne Shea, of Circleville, died Tuesday. She had been hospitalized in Columbus since Aug. 17, when investigators say she drove through the stop sign and collided with another vehicle.

An autopsy was planned for Wednesday.

Shea’s passenger, her 85-year-old sister Mary Spangler, died in the crash.

Authorities say two men covered the sign as a prank.

The two have pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Spangler’s death. Pickaway County Prosecutor Mary Wolford said Wednesday that she needs more information before she could say whether she’d pursue additional charges.
