Surplus Radio Equipment Auction Set for Friday, September 16

The City of Naperville will host a surplus radio equipment auction at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 16 at the Public Works Service Center, 180 Fort Hill Drive.

Radio equipment up for auction includes items from a Motorola Trunked 800 MHz Radio system purchased by the City in 1989. The Motorola system was comprised of mobile and portable radios, along with UHF and VHF radios. The Motorola system purchased in 1989 was a SmartNet System, with a primary transmit site and a backup transmit site. In addition to the primary and backup transmit sites (which also served as a receive site), the system also included four additional receiver sites. Throughout its lifetime, the City purchased several upgrades to the system.

In 2008, the City purchased the Harris/Tyco Interoperable Radio system for citywide use. The Motorola equipment was used until December 1, 2010, when the City switched over to the Harris/Tyco system. The Motorola equipment was taken off the air and inventoried and placed in storage as surplus.

Viewing of all auction items begins at 8 a.m. with the auction starting promptly at 9 a.m. Parking is available in the Public Works Service Center parking lot. Registration is required for this event and will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event.

Accepted forms of payment include cash, cashiers' check or a business check accompanied by a bank letter of credit, which is available on the City's website at www.naperville.il.us/auctions.aspx. All bank letters of credit must be faxed to (630) 305-5356 to be pre-approved by the City's Procurement Division by noon on Thursday, September 15. There is a 10 percent buyer's premium charged for buyers paying by cash or check and a 13 percent buyer's premium to those paying by credit card. Visa, MasterCard or Discover will be accepted at the auction.

Espe Auctioneering will broadcast the auction online on Proxibid at www.proxibid.com for interested bidders who are unable to attend the live auction. A link from the auctioneer's website, www.espeauctions.com, will take you to the Proxibid website for the online registration form. Bidders interested in bidding online must register at this site. A compete catalog is located online at www.proxibid.com/asp/catalog.asp?aid=43183.

Equipment purchased at the auction must be paid for and removed on the day of sale no later than 3 p.m. Department of Public Works employees will be available with a forklift for help in removing equipment on pallets from 1 to 3 p.m. Espe Auctioneering will make arrangements for all items sold online to be professionally packaged and mailed. Smaller items will be sent via UPS/USPS and larger items will be delivered via FedEx Freight or a similar service.
