Naperville Residents Invited to Help Pave the Riverwalk on Thursday, September 15

Final Opportunity for Residents to Lay Brick Pavers on the Riverwalk

Following an active summer of volunteers laying bricks to replace the existing asphalt pathway along the Naperville Riverwalk west to the Jefferson Avenue Bridge, the Riverwalk Commission and Naperville Park District are preparing to finish asphalt replacement. The Riverwalk Commission invites the public to join in a final brick laying from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 15.

In 1981, Naperville residents gathered to lay the bricks on the original Riverwalk. The community came together again in 2000 to build the Riverwalk extension from Washington Street to Hillside Road. This improvement to the Riverwalk is being built using recycled bricks from the Riverwalk Phase I Rehabilitation Project, as well as other projects including the reconstruction of the Gregory Gazebo and the Sesquicentennial Overlook.

Participants will gather at the Jefferson Avenue Plaza located on the east side of the Jefferson Avenue Bridge. To sign up, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Lynnette Hoole at lhoole@napervilleparks.org or (630) 848-3606.
