Elgin Lions to celebrate 90 years in October
Submitted by Elgin Lions Club
Ed Bates will begin his third year as the president of the Elgin Lions Club at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road in Elgin.
The speaker for the evening will be Dr. Jeffrey Meyers, an optometrist at the Elgin Visual Clinic. His appearance is appropriate because he deals with analyzing and correcting visual problems and the Elgin Lions Club has been dealing primarily with the visual problems of the community since the inception of the club in 1921.
The public is invited, and new members are being sought; there will be a $15 charge for the meal.
A celebration is being planned for the 90th anniversary of the founding of the club in October. Information about that event will be forthcoming when plans are finalized.
The Elgin Lions Club is cooperating with the South Elgin Lions Club in sponsoring a golf outing at the Hughes Creek Golf Club in Elburn on Sept. 9. Opportunities remain for additional golfers and sponsorships.
The cost for individual golfers is $85 for eighteen holes of golf with a cart, a drink at the turn and a steak dinner. There will be prizes for good golf and a raffle.
Proceeds from the outing go to sustaining the charitable works of the clubs. Contact club President Ed Bates at batesed@cod.edu to save a spot of for further information.
