One person dead in Palatine stabbing late Monday

Authorities are still investigating the stabbing death of a 22-year-old man late Monday in Palatine, police announced. Palatine Police officials said they were called to the 1300 block of N. Port O'Call at 8:07 p.m. Monday with claims someone had been stabbed. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered the male victim lying on the ground bleeding. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, authorities said, where he later died from his wounds. Full story.

Metra Trains running late after accident in Cary

Metra officials said the Metra Northwest Pacific Line is running about 15 to 30 minutes behind schedule after a train hit an unoccupied car at Three Oaks Road in Cary, officials said. Full story.

Cary boy in serious condition after falling into canyon

An 8-year-old Cary boy remains hospitalized this morning after falling 26 feet into a canyon while hiking with his family at Starved Rock State Park on Sunday. He was reported to be in serious condition at a Peoria hospital after sustaining head and neck injuries, authorities said. Full story.

Animal shelter owner case goes to trial

The trial of Deer Park animal shelter owner Diane Eldrup is scheduled to begin today with jury selection. Eldrup is charged with animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals after authorities say they discovered 34 dead animals there in December. Full story.

Connelly to run for Milner's senate seat

State Rep. Mike Connelly will hold a news conference today to formally announce his run for the 21st district state Senate seat currently held by John Milner, who is stepping down in order to spend more time caring for his ailing wife. Milner announced last week that he wouldn't be running for re-election, and he is expected to endorse Connelly. Nearly perfect for Sox rookie

It was a tough weekend for the White Sox in Motown, getting swept by the division-leading Tigers. But they had good news to celebrate Monday, after a near-perfect pitching performance by rookie Zach Stewart.
