Heavier loads allowed on Wis. roads for harvest

MADISON, Wis. — Heavier loads are allowed on Wisconsin roads over the next three months as farmers are hauling corn, soybeans and other crops during harvest season.

State law allows farmers to exceed the maximum weight for roads by 15 percent between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30 as they are transporting crops from the fields to be stored or sold.

The heavier loads are not allowed on any interstates except I-39 between Portage and Wausau.

The Wisconsin State Patrol urges farmers with questions about the weight limits to contact local law enforcement officials since there are still some restrictions, like on bridges and during the Thanksgiving weekend.
