Police: Mother in custody in deaths of 2 kids

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — Police say an East St. Louis woman suspected in the shotgun deaths of her two youngest children was arrested in Missouri after allegedly hitting three pedestrians with her car.

Investigators haven’t publicly identify the woman arrested Wednesday night in St. Louis after East St. Louis police found the bodies of a 4-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy in the family’s apartment.

Authorities also haven’t revealed any possible reason for the shootings.

No charges have been filed.

Relatives of the woman say she recently had been prescribed medication to treat depression or a mental illness.

The woman’s 8-year-old son was unharmed after fleeing the apartment during the shootings.

The pedestrians were taken to the hospital, but police say their injuries weren’t life-threatening.
