Budzban: Even in times of sadness remember to live, laugh and love
“You have made known to me the path of life.”
— Psalm 16:11 (NIV)
My day started off like any typical day. However, about mid morning, my daily routine was interrupted by a phone call.
A family member was calling to inform me that my oldest son’s close friend had died.
I was stunned by the information that this vibrant young man, still in his 30s, was no longer alive. I hung up and called my son to offer some loving support and see how he was taking the news.
After conversing with him, it was hard to concentrate on my work. But by early afternoon, I figured it was time to get going. However, once again, the phone rang. I picked up the receiver and detected the quiver in my friend’s voice, as she informed me that her husband’s test results were conclusive for cancer.
I could hardly believe all the sad news. It felt as if some huge dark cloud was looming overhead. Then a package containing something I had ordered a week before arrived at my door.
I opened the box to remove three wall plaques containing the words, “Live, Laugh, and Love.” As I read them I thought to myself, “What a timely reminder, Lord.”
These tragedies are reminder life is here and gone. To live a full life, we need to remember how important these key components are.
How do we “Live” — by trusting God to help and strengthen us. We pray for God’s plan to be fulfilled and that he guide our paths. We look for things to be grateful for and express our gratitude. Remember not to blame God. He doesn’t cause our adversity, He helps see us through it. We pursue God’s principles and wisdom to make wise choices.
The Bible refers to “Laughter” as medicine for our body and soul. During times of stress we need to de-stress by finding ways to tickle our funny bone even though it seems there is nothing worth laughing about.
According to the Scriptures, “Love” is the most excellent way to live. It’s a vital force to a life that excels. A person with a loving heart shows mercy and compassion. They apologize quickly and give of their time, talent and finances. Love does the right thing not to receive rewards or accolades from others, but simply because it is the right thing to do.
Living, laughing, and loving keeps us on the right path on any given day.
