Join in 10th anniversary remembrance of Sept. 11

LOMBARD, Illinois— A silent procession will begin promptly at 7 p.m. on September 11 from the intersection of Maple & Elizabeth, which will begin the Village of Lombard's 10-year anniversary remembrance of September 11.

The silent procession will be led by the Lombard Police Department and Lombard Fire Department Honor Guards. Residents may join in the procession anywhere along the way, which will end up at the Maple Street Chapel.

Community church bells will toll for 15 minutes, beginning at 7 p.m. Once the procession arrives at the Maple Street Chapel, with overflow space available in the First Church's Multi-Purpose Room, a short program will follow. Audio and video of the program will be shown in the overflow room, provided courtesy of Progressive Communications.

The program will include comments from Lombard Village President William Mueller, an invocation by First Church of Lombard's Pastor, Reverend Rob Hatfield and musical selections by the Glenbard East Madrigal Singers. Marine Sgt. William McIntyre and Cprl. Aaron Ramirez will lead the audience in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and Lombard Fire Department Honor Guard will toll the fire bell in memory of those who lost their lives.

A narration of the event of September 11, 2001 will be read by Lombard Fire Department Battalion Chief Chuck Ralis and reflections of the day will be given by Lombard Police Lieutenant Scott Watkins.

Parking for the September 11 remembrance is available in any of the commuter parking lots around the location, as well as church parking lots proximate to Maple Street. The remembrance will take place, rain or shine, unless extreme weather conditions are expected. Should extreme weather conditions be expected, residents may check the Village website, the Lombard Channel (6 on Comcast cable or 99 on AT&T U-Verse) or call (630) 873-4440 for any changes related to the remembrance.
