Goshen High freshmen given laptops

GOSHEN, Ind. — Goshen High School is going digital.

The Elkhart Truth reports that nearly 480 freshmen at Goshen High School have been given laptops to use for school work in and out of the building. Assistant Principal Noah Tonk told parents and students that the future of employment in the United States will depend upon the students who are ready for careers in a digital environment.

Tonk says some parents told him that they would prefer their children to continue their educations with the traditional textbook. But he says the laptop is the textbook, portfolio, notebook, binder, pen and pencil and more.

Goshen administrators say they plan to save money in the long run by eliminating textbooks. Rental fees are $116. The total cost to the school corporation is $317,765.
