DUI charge after woman strikes Barrington RR crossing
A 21-year-old North Barrington woman was charged with DUI after she struck a railroad crossing pole Saturday morning, forcing repair crews to shut down a crossing at Route 59 for more than four hours.
Police said Brittany A. Keiter, 21, of the 25100 block of North Pawnee Road in North Barrington crashed into the base of the signal pole at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday and was arrested at the scene.
Route 59 was closed at the crossing about a block south of Northwest Highway in Barrington until 1 p.m.
Railroad officials inspected the signal pole assembly and felt it was in danger of falling into traffic, so traffic was detoured from the area while the signal was replaced, according to police.
Keiter is due in court on Sept. 12.
