Officials trying to identify body found in Muncie
MUNCIE, Ind. — Authorities in Muncie are trying to determine whether a body found on the city’s north side is that of a woman who’s been missing for more than three weeks.
The body was spotted Wednesday about 20 yards into a wooded area by business workers who checked out an odor. Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn tells The Star Press that the female body is badly decomposed and couldn’t be identified before an autopsy expected on Thursday.
Muncie police Capt. Mark Vollmar declined to speculate whether the body is that of 40-year-old Kimberly Nelson.
She disappeared after leaving her work shift at a Muncie youth treatment center on Aug. 1. Her car was later found at a city park about a mile from where the body was located.
