Aurora run for Athletes raises $3,830
The fourth annual Run for the Athletes 5K organized by the Aurora Police Department raised $3,830 for Special Olympics Illinois, organizers said.
The Aug. 17 event drew 235 runners along with 11 police and fire teams who competed in the second annual Police vs. Fire 5K Challenge. The Joliet Fire Department claimed first place in that competition, with Aurora’s police and fire departments tying for second place.
The race was co-sponsored by Blackberry Farm, the Fox Valley Park District and Special Olympics Illinois. Race funds contributed to a total of $11,000 Aurora police have raised for Special Olympics so far this year.
Police aim to raise $15,000 by the end of the year.
