Lt. Gov. Simon welcomes students back to school

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon welcomed students back to class in three central Illinois elementary schools in Springfield, Peoria and Bloomington.

Her office says the banjo-toting Simon on Monday urged students to stay in school and go to college.

Simon has made education her signature issue since being elected as the state’s No. 2 last year. Simon taught law at Southern Illinois University before Gov. Pat Quinn tapped her to be his running mate.
