Hoffman Estates Citizen Police Academy accepting applications

The Hoffman Estates Police Department is accepting applications for its 22nd annual Citizen Police Academy.

Participants will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real police equipment, including squad cars, jail cells and duty gear. Home security, SWAT operations, crime scene investigations, gangs, club drugs and a K-9 demonstration are some of the topics to be discussed during the academy, which runs from Aug. 30 to Dec. 5.

To participate, applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside, attend school or work in Hoffman Estates. Academy classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the police station, 411 W. Higgins Road.
