Contractor with Blagojevich links pleads guilty

A 60-year-old contractor with ties to impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich has been sentenced to four years of probation for bilking the state by submitting bogus bills for drug screenings.

Anita Mahajan pleaded guilty to felony theft in Cook County court Monday for pilfering nearly $100,000 in taxpayer money through her now-defunct company, K.K. Bio-Science.

Mahajan told the court, “I’m sorry.”

Mahajan also agreed to pay $200,000 and perform 1,500 hours in community service.

Mahajan’s husband, Amrish, was a fundraiser for Blagojevich in the Indian-American community. She was involved in real-estate transactions in 2006 that netted Blagojevich’s wife, Patti, large commissions.

There’s no indication of any link to her case and those commissions. And Mahajan’s company secured the state contract before Blagojevich took office.
