Village plans 10th anniversary remembrance of Sept. 11

LOMBARD, Illinois— The Village of Lombard is planning a September 11 remembrance to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center Towers in New York.

The remembrance will begin with a silent procession of the Lombard Fire and Police Honor Guards, followed by fire and police vehicles, who will meet at the intersection of Maple & Elizabeth Streets. Here residents will be invited to join in the procession, which will march to the Maple Street Chapel. Residents may join in any place along the route (see map for route details.) The Village has requested that the local places of worship toll their church bells between 7 and 7:15 p.m. to call attention and take notice of the remembrance.

Once the procession arrives at the Maple Street Chapel, the Chapel will be filled first, with overflow directed to the multi-purpose room of the First Church, where audio and video of the short program will be provided, courtesy of Lombard's Progressive Communications, Inc. The brief program will include a welcome from Village President William Mueller, music provided by the Glenbard East Madrigal singers and the “last call” ringing of the fire bell.

Residents are encouraged to bring flashlights to help light their way. The ceremony is expected to be brief and end with a silent dismissal of those in attendance.

Anyone with questions regarding the remembrance, please contact Joelyn Kott, Communications Coordinator for the Village, at (630) 620-5718.
