Jobs created when middle class spends

The gnashing of teeth over raising the debt ceiling and budget cuts ignores the real problems in our nation. Our nation needs jobs! We need to reform trade policies to ensure real fair trade and a fairer international atmosphere for our nation’s workers.

We also need to make sure that corporations and the top 2 percent pay their fair share of taxes. The corporations are sitting on trillions of dollars. These “job creators” have not been creating jobs.

We need to make sure that the “spenders” have money in their pockets. Making the middle class and working Americans pay more by receiving less benefits will further weaken our economy because these two groups spend their money. They create demand for goods and services that, in turn, stimulates corporations to produces goods and services and hire more employees. These new employees spend their salaries and create a demand for goods, and around and around it goes. This is how an economy works.

The cuts in the debt ceiling agreements do nothing to solve our real economic problems and to create jobs. Cutting the deficit, without other economy expanding provisions, will only further weaken our economy. Now is not the time to cut spending and to take money from those who both need and use it. If we restore jobs, demand fairness in tax payments and correct our international trade inequities, the deficit will take care of itself.
