NU lands highly rated basketball player Kale Abrahamson

Northwestern picked up its highest-rated recruit in two years Tuesday when Iowa forward Kale Abrahamson committed during a recruiting visit.

The 6-foot-7 shooter, who’s viewed as being in the mold of NU senior John Shurna, had offers from six other BCS-conference schools including Iowa, Nebraska, Boston College and Stanford.

Abrahamson averaged 21.4 points per game last winter for Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.

He joined North Carolina recruit Marcus Paige, Iowa freshman Josh Oglesby and Wisconsin freshman Jarrod Uthoff on Iowa Preps’ Class 4A all-state team.

Some recruiting gurus rank Abrahamson among the Top 150 prospects in the Class of 2012.

He joins Minnesota wing Sanjay Lumpkin and Indiana center Alex Olah in Northwestern’s recruiting class. They can sign letters of intent in November.

TCU transfer Nikola Cerina, a power forward, becomes eligible in 2012-13 for the Wildcats as well.
