South Barrington recycle event on Aug. 20
According to the most recent statistics available from the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 20 million televisions, 157 million computer items and 126 million cellphones are disposed of each year. As technology progresses, old items become obsolete at an ever-increasing pace.
The South Barrington Park District is encouraging the community to recycle responsibly by offering the fourth annual Electronics Recycling Event, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.
Drive up, volunteers will help you unload, and you can drive off with an empty trunk and the positive feeling that you kept your electronics items out of the landfill.
The collection site will be at South Barrington Community Park, 8 Bridges Drive, off Bartlett Road, just north of Higgins Road. The park district will be accepting televisions at this drive. Items that cannot be accepted are: radioactive materials, hazardous materials, non-electronics, corrosives, gas cylinders, flammable materials, refrigerants, PCBs, and explosives.
Visit www.sbpd.net and select the documents button on the left for a complete list of items that will not be accepted at the event or contact Recreation Supervisor Colleen Fear at (847) 381-7515, x16, or cfear@sbpd.net for more information.
The South Barrington Park District has been enriching our community through parks, programs and facilities since 1975. More information about the services and programs offered by the South Barrington Park District can be obtained at www.sbpd.net.
