Warren High students shine at business leadership conference

Warren Township High School students in Future Business Leaders of America recently completed a successful trip to a national event in Orlando, Fla.

Students in the FBLA chapter at Gurnee-based Warren High School District 121 attended the two-day Institute for Leaders Conference. They also competed at the National Leadership Conference.

Future Business Leaders of America members developed skills by attending workshops such as “Ethical Leadership” and “Breaking Barriers — Become Your Own Boss.” The conference ran from late June through July 1.

Eleven members were recognized onstage for their success, for a total of 13 individual awards. The chapter also got two first-place awards.

Members who were recognized onstage are:

Ÿ Kyle Alden, Local Chapter Annual Report, 1st place; Business Financial Plan, 10th place; Who’s Who in Illinois.

Ÿ Will Hennessy, Local Chapter Annual Report, 1st place

Ÿ Stephanie Zblewski, Local Chapter Annual Report, 1st place

Ÿ Jolie Huang, Web Design, 1st place

Ÿ Joey Zegar, Web Design, 1st place

Ÿ Monica Detter, Desktop Publishing, 3rd place

Ÿ Jen Gardner, Desktop Publishing, 3rd place

Ÿ Alex Paisley, Introduction to Business Communications, 5th place

Ÿ April Young, Accounting I, 7th place

Ÿ Panjri Shukla, Business Financial Plan, 10th place

Ÿ Jennifer Aronsohn was recognized for completing the prestigious Business Achievement America Award.

Other members in attendance were Corey Alden, Beatrice Alleyne, Jenny Aronsohn, Sarah Balwierczak, Katherine Boncher, Christie Clark, Katie Clark, Saraid Claxton, James Dadabo, Lauren Furmanski, Maddie Gastfield, Tom Hennessy, Christopher Hoeflinger, Carolyn Kalinowski, Effie Katsoolias, Erin McDougle, Andrew Nickell, Todd Sherman, Adam Szostak, Caroline Szostak, Kimberly Tsarpalas, and Kevin Vollrath.

FBLA Advisers Chris Mason, Matt Vogel and Kelly Wilkerson also attended the conference.

This was the best performance by the Warren chapter at the national conference. Other chapter awards given to Warren include: Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit; Outstanding Chapter; Largest FBLA Local Chapter in the North Central Region; and Largest FBLA Chapter for Professional members in the North Central Region.

About 8,000 members and advisers were present at the conference, making it the largest one in the history of FBLA-PBL.
