Voter-approved project underway

Prospect Heights Mayor Nick Helmer marked the beginning of the $5 million dollar Phase I road repair and replacement program Thursday. “We have designated 50 streets in this massive rehabilitation program to be completed by the end of November,” he said. The total program will improve more than 130 streets in the city, with $10 million of construction scheduled for next spring and summer. Baxter Woodman is the engineering firm overseeing the project, and Arrow Road Construction of Mount Prospect won the bid for overall construction work. Many streets in Prospect Heights have not been worked on since the mid 1980s due to the lack of funds. The $15 million road referendum passed by voters in November 2010, gave the city council the ability to move forward.
