Durant House Museum teaches pickling process

The 1843 Durant House Museum will offer an afternoon of old-fashioned fun from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 7 and 28. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children ages 3 to 12.

The pickling party will take place on the restored prairie farmhouse grounds. Learn about the pickling process and food preservation used in the 1840s from museum docents.

Samplings will be presented in both the original 1840s Durant Hearth Room and the Victorian Kitchen added by Godfrey and Christina Peterson in the 1880s.

The Durant House Museum and Sholes School are open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, through August, and Sundays, through Oct. 3.
