Golf benefit raises $71,000 for Condell cancer care
More than $70,000 was raised last month in a golf outing to benefit Cancer Care Services at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
About 120 golfers attended the 30th Annual Advocate Condell Medical Center Penny Schachner Memorial Golf Open June 7 at Pine Meadow Golf Club in Libertyville.
“The beneficiary this year was the Cancer Care Services at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which provides patients a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of cancer,” said organizer Jim Zils, who is also a member of Advocate Condell Medical Center’s Governing and Development councils.
“The unseasonably warm weather did not detract from a successful and fun outing.”
The nearly $71,000 raised will help fund:
Ÿ Nurse Navigator Program: Nurse navigators help patients access and understand their medical care and other services by following them through their course of treatment. These certified professionals assist patients with everything from helping them understand insurance coverage and charity care, finding transportation to and from their appointments, to providing support for patients’ emotional and mental well-being.
Ÿ Community Education and Outreach: Detecting cancer early offers the greatest possibility of successful treatment. With the help of philanthropy, the team of experts visits schools, churches and community centers to educate people about the importance of cancer screenings. They provide tips on healthy lifestyles and share important information about diagnostic and treatment options.
Ÿ Spiritual and Social Services: The funding will help Advocate Condell enhance its support groups and survivorship programs. One initiative, the “Look Good, Feel Better” program, co-sponsored with the American Cancer Society, teaches beauty techniques to help women with cancer manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
