Former Des Plaines History Center director dies
Joy Matthiessen, the former executive director of the Des Plaines History Center, died Wednesday morning, a city official said late Wednesday. Matthiessen retired earlier this year after serving as director for 22 years and overseeing the Historical Museum, which opened in 1969 and is located in the 1906 Benjamin F. Kinder House at 789 Pearson St. She was replaced by Shari Caine, who had been serving as interim director for some time and has been an employee of the center for 14 years, previously as the archives manager.
