UOP, ExxonMobil create technology licensing alliance

PRNewswire

DES PLAINES — UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, has formed a licensing alliance with ExxonMobil Research & Engineering Company to offer integrated solutions for the production of lubricant oils and high-quality fuels.

The agreement between Honeywell UOP and EMRE will provide a one-stop solution for refiners to maximize production levels of both lubricant oils and diesel fuel. The alliance brings together EMRE technology, used to produce lube base oils for use in motor oil, with UOP hydroprocessing solutions, which produce the high-quality feedstocks needed for lubricant production.

Customers will also be able to access integrated process design solutions for EMRE fuel dewaxing technologies and UOP hydroprocessing solutions to produce high-cetane, ultraclean diesel for cold climates in a single engineering package

“By bringing together these two well-established portfolios, we are maximizing solutions for our customers to produce more and better products from each barrel of crude,” said Pete Piotrowski, vice president and general manager of process technology and equipment for Honeywell’s UOP. “The integration of EMRE and UOP technologies allows refiners to achieve impressive yields of dewaxed fuels and lube products while optimizing their operating and capital costs.”

UOP UnicrackingT hydroprocessing processes and catalysts upgrade crude oil to produce ultraclean distillate products and lube oil feedstocks. UOP has been developing and licensing hydroprocessing solutions, including advanced catalysts and specialty equipment, for more than 50 years, with more than 200 units licensed in over 40 countries.

EMRE is the research and engineering arm of Exxon Mobil Corporation, a leading global oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals company whose subsidiaries have operations in nearly 200 countries and territories.
