Grants available for field trips to Lincoln museum

SPRINGFIELD — Grants to help schools with large numbers of low-income students take field trips to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum are now available.

The Winnick Family Foundation is offering grants for field trips to schools nationwide. The deadline for applying is Sept. 1.

Teachers of grades 4 through 12 in public and private schools with low-income enrollment of more than 30 percent are eligible. So are not-for-profit youth organizations which serve poor children.

The grants provide funding for transportation, lunch or educational materials. Groups with grants do not pay a museum admission fee.

Grant awards will be announced Oct. 1.

In 2010, a total of $20,000 was awarded to 19 schools.
