Man struck while changing tire in Rolling Meadows

A man was seriously injured Monday night when a vehicle slammed into him while he was changing a tire on Route 53 in Rolling Meadows, according to authorities.

Police said the man was changing his tire on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Route 53 when a vehicle lost control and struck him.

Police said a woman sideswiped a truck just south of Kirchoff Road and lost control causing her to smash into the man and his vehicle at about 7:45 p.m.

The man was unconscious with serious injuries when he was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital but regained his consciousness at the hospital and was in stable condition, according to fire officials.

Police said the woman was ticketed, but did not have details of the citation.

Two northbound lanes of Route 53 were shut down as Illinois State Police and Rolling Meadows rescue crews responded to the crash.
