Des Plaines man charged with teen’s death
A 19-year-old Des Plaines man charged with killing a 15-year-old boy and wounding another teen in a shooting last Friday on Chicago’s Far North Side was denied bail Saturday.
James Galambos, of the 900 block of Beau Drive, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in a shooting that took place about 4:30 p.m. July 22 on the 3200 block of West Peterson Avenue, police said.
Sergio Torrez, 15, was shot in the back and died of his injuries at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The other shooting victim was treated and released.
Police would not confirm what the motive was behind the shooting. Galambos’ is due back in court Monday.
