Elk Grove Village cop hearing Thursday

The Elk Grove Village Police and Fire Commission could determine today whether to suspend or fire police officer David Klingsporn, who faces one charge of violating the police department's rules of conduct.

The public hearing is scheduled for 5 p.m. in the village hall council chambers, 901 Wellington Ave.

Deputy Police Chief John Nowacki would not divulge details of the charge against Klingsporn other than to say that it was for “failure to properly secure department property.” Details will come out at the hearing, he said.

The Police and Fire Commission has the authority to suspend Klingsporn for up to 30 days or relieve him from the department, Nowacki said. “The chief could suspend an employee up to five days. Anything in excess of five days, charges have to be filed,” he said.

A representative for the Metropolitan Alliance of Police union could not immediately be reached for comment.
