Downstate man killed in Tri-State motorcycle crash

A 54-year-old man was killed Monday night when his motorcycle struck the center median on the Tri-State Tollway late Monday night, officials said.

James Ewing, of downstate Gifford, was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was taken immediately after the 9 p.m. crash near Russell Road.

The downstate man was not wearing a helmet, officials said, and was heading northbound before crossing three lanes of traffic and hit the median.

Traffic was reduced to two lanes immediately following the crash, authorities said.

The incident remains under investigation, officials said.
