Man who struck Ill. deputy charged with DUI
GALESBURG — A man faces DUI charges after police say he drove the wrong way on the interstate and struck a western Illinois sheriff's deputy head-on.
Illinois State Police Trooper Jason Wilson says Benjamin Davila is charged with DUI, reckless driving and improper lane usage after the July 13 crash.
Authorities say Knox County Deputy Keith King was responding to a call about Davila driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 74 when he was struck.
King sustained non-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital on July 15. The 27-year-old has been with the department since 2008.
A family friend says Davila remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Davila has an attorney.
