St. James puts on 'The Music Man' July 28-30

St. James Community Theatre presents "The Music Man" at 7 p.m. July 28-30 at 820 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights.

Everyone can relate to this musical as the cast ranges from school children through semi-professional leads.

To see up to 115 performers singing and dancing on stage in the big production numbers like the library scene and “Shipoopi” will blow you away. As in a three-ring circus, there is so much going on you can't decide what to watch.

All of the leads have excellent voices, including little Winthrop and Amaryllis, who will steal your heart away. The complex sets are worthy of a Broadway production. An 18-piece orchestra supplies the musical accompaniment. This is the 42nd production of the St. James Community Theatre and one of the most lavish.

The closing scene in which the whole cast appears in slightly ill-fitting uniforms (borrowed from the Rolling Meadows High School marching band) is a keeper.

Take the family to see the best musical production in the suburbs this week-end.

The venue is located in the center of Arlington Heights at 820 N. Arlington Heights Road with plenty of free parking.

Tickets go for $10 to $15 and may be purchased online at stjamestheatre.org/tickets or at the door the night of the show.

Good seats are still available for this weekend (July 28, 29, 30). The show starts at 7 p.m., so one can get home at a reasonable hour. No seat is more than 20 rows from the stage.
