Suburban fests can be whole lot greener

Recently as a volunteer at one of our suburban summer festivals, I was able to view, up close and personal, the way people’s trash was being collected. Folks threw everything into the same black plastic bags that were replaced when they spilled over. My question: Who went through those bags to cull out all used recyclable plastic cups and metal beverage containers?

The Daily Herald would be doing the public a favor if you investigated just how green our area summer festivals are. What is recycled? What goes to a landfill? I’m sure we could do better. Now is the time to discuss how to make our festivals the greenest they can be in time for summer 2012.
